THE OUTER EAR - PINNA
The pinna is the visible part of the ear. Its unusual form is created in the womb, when six small hillocks become enlarged and then unite to create pinna.

THE PINNAPLASTY SURGERY
People with prominent ears can undergo surgery to align the pinna properly against the head. The operation means that the surgeon has to increase the crease of the anti-helical fold, a fold which which runs vertically down the middle of the ear and becomes abnormally flat in patients with prominent ear.

PINNAPLASTY-THE RESULTS
Pinnaplasty has an extremely good success rate. Following the surgical procedure, over ninety percent of patients are extremely happy with the results. However, it may take may weeks’ time for the results to be fully appreciated.

PINNAPLASTY AND HEARING
The pinna is a well-recognised part of the hearing system. It has the ability to shape the incoming sound signals. Research has shown that the shape of the pinna could affect spatial localisation.
Pre-Surgical Information
If you believe you or your child have protruding ears that has impacted the shape or positioning of the ears, then you may want to consider ear correction surgery. Mr Prad Murthy will provide a full Pre-Surgical Information on the procedure during consultation.
After-Pinnaplasty Surgery
Most of our patients usually go home on the day of the procedure. In some cases, an overnight stay may be required. After a few days your dressings can be removed. In most instances, any pain or discomfort can be treated using over the counter pain relief. Taking rest in the first two to three weeks will help. The full benefits of pinnaplasty may not be visible until eight to ten weeks after pinnaplasty surgery
